M&S

There is nothing new to report in the kitchen - not just yet, I have been trying to get the garden sorted for winter whilst we await the sorting out of the worktops and floor tiles, oh and the arrival of 2 missing doors - in the meantime I have been planning my winter clothes. I bought a fantastic coat from Oxfam for £20, my favourite brand being per una of M&S fame. I saw some boots I quite liked the look of too....

I sent off for the boots in August, size 4 like I always get from M&S. They arrived, together with a change in temperature so I more or less forgot about them until this weekend. The weather forecast was particularly cold so I decided to wear my new boots. However on closer inspection I must say the quality was not that good. The fit was not comfortable and I feared "chaffing" might take place as the size seemed to be on the larger size. I read reviews on the M&S website, which were very mixed, but quite a few seemed to state the issue of quality etc.

Problem was, I had no receipt - fully expecting there to be no problems. I contacted customer services who told me to take the boots back to a local store - which I did, together with the transaction code so the order history could be traced.

This I did - and was given a credit note for £85.00, the amount I paid for the boots. A really good response I felt - I had none of the original packaging etc. I will visit our local Clark's shoe shop where I have seen some similar ones, but at least I will be able to try them on and see what they look like in the real sense of matters!

Once sorted, I will be sorted for the weather ahead! Walkies with Freida can only get better!

  1. Walkies can be a bad idea with the wrong footwear, that's for sure.
I can't buy shoes or boots without trying them on first, because I have to be sure my custom orthotic insoles will fit into them. Nobody ever warned me about falling arches!
Looking forward to the kitchen photos when they're available, but please don't feel pressured. LOL

  2. You did well. Although I don't use M&S very much I do know that their returns policies are very good. I can't buy footwear without first trying on.

  3. I have just purchased shoes from M&S - and usually take 4½ or 5. But the online reviews all said "Try a half size larger if you get this style" So I went into the shop and tried on- and yes, for the first time EVER I am in 5½. Have they changed their 'lasts'? I do not think their cshoes are quite as good as they used to be.
My new winter boots must wait on the wish list a little longer I think!

  9. Thought I would drop by your blog after your cheeky visit to my place. Hope your new boots meet your exacting standards and help you to secure the part in "Puss in Boots" that you so much crave.

  10. I have to say Denise that I have a friend who used to work for M and S in quite a high up post - and she says their after sales service is second to none - and I do agree with her.

  11. I am picky where shoes are concerned as my feet are just a wee bit smaller than the smallest size in the ladies section!! Find it difficult to get the right fit but did shop at Clark's and they were perfect, though a bit expensive compared to our standards here!!

  14. I always have to try first, before I buy. I think my feet change each year, so it seems necessary to try on boots and shoes each new year.

  15. You were so fortunate to not have any hassle about your boots.
I'm sure not ready for winter and want to pretend that its not coming....
    Love your M post today.

  16. I am glad you got that sorted out satisfactorily. I haven't been able to get footware from M&S for a few years because the don't fit me any more. Most of my shoes come from Clarkes now.

  18. You're fortunate that the store has such good return policy, here we only have exchange policy but never return for cash. But at least with so many stores around I can go in and try until I'm satisfied before buying.

  23. Returns without receipts are always so 'ify' - it's nice to know that there are happy endings! Have a great week.

  24. Oh yes they look very nice, what a shame you were thwarted in wearing them. I'm always envious of people that can send for shoes and they just fit, I always have to go in and try lots on, I'm an in-between size.

  25. Wow, buying a coat at Oxfam's is something I should like to do too. Our Fairtrade shops don't sell clothes, but when I go to Australia I shall try and find an Oxfam!

  26. I hope you find the boots you want. I usually buy M&S Footglove shoes but sometimes their sizes vary.
