The weather was lovely today, quite crisp but fresh and very autumnal. We headed over to the North York Railway in Grosmont where the war weekend festivities were taking part. A wonderful afternoon. I thought of my blogging friend Pearl and took these photos specially for her and her husband. They enjoy this type of thing and I figured it just may bring a smile their way. Dxxx
We've been on that train and it's like being rocked in a cradle.
ReplyDeleteI fell asleep on the trip up from Pickering and on the trip back from Grosmont as well.
Despite that, I recommend the ride to anyone, with a stop off for a drink in Goathland (Aidensfield) en route.
Love that train ride to- from Goathland. What a good idea War Weekend is. I can see some people really got into the part.
ReplyDeletegreat photos, and I agree it was good to see people getting into the spirit of it all....

Fun photos! Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteFriends of my Mum & Dad go every year - I don't see them in your photo's though lol!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this sort of thing. We sure don't do it here. The only thing close, I guess, would be Remembrance Day November 11th every year.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it was a fun day out. I love that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteWe went on the Severn Valley Railway but it was just a ride on the train, nowhere near as interesting as your day out.
ReplyDeleteThese weekends are so popular aren't they - we had one in July here in Leyburn and the place was heaving with men in uniforms (all officers I noted) and ladies in stockings with seams!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I 'get' the playing at wartime, but I do get the dressing up!
