A is for Adventure......of a sewing kind!

ABC Wednesday is now entering Round 10! How amazing is that? A meme I started 5 years ago is still going strong, bringing together bloggers from all over the globe each week with a letter of the alphabet!

I try to have a theme to my contributions - I have used random photos, literally going out of the house, armed with camera "looking for a D" or whatever. I have also just taken in inspiration as I go about my daily business thinking "That will make an excellent E contribution" or whatever. The last round I mauinly focussed on our DIY projects, but this round I want it to be a learning experience....for me.
Whilst I did not make any New Year's Resolutions I decided to try and develop my limited sewing skills. I know Blogland brings us into the pressence of wonderful crafters and I find myself in awe of their talents. I often say I will learn to knit  but I never seem to do it. Yes I can make and enjoy making cards and benefit quite well from wedding commissions etc, but I can sew - be it very very simply.......
so my ABC Round 10 is going to be a learning adventure on a journey of sewing!

I have Jon's Grandma's vintage sewing machine......

But I also have one of these!
Bought for £20 at the local OAP's Table Top Sale. A dear lady sold me this, I feel I owe it to her to use it! It has been in the porch for a couple of years and it was only when talking over this and that with my good friend |Jill did I think to get it out and use it - so we are sharing it and bringing it to life.........Jill is
further down the road than I am, but I am here at the beginning of my adventure........
Watch this space!

  2. How exciting! Maybe you have a whole new career just waiting for you. I used to make my girls' clothes when they were younger but then the girls started wearing pants and I wasn't very good at making those.

  3. Can't wait to see what you would come up for the next letters. Mine is adding Filipino word for every letter for Round 10.

  5. You've got LOTS of skills.

BTW, here's a skill I don't have; getting rid of the white space below the graphic. But someone else has, so I've replaced the logo on the blog page.

  6. I have a Frister Rossman too, a Beaver 7, Bob bought it for me the week after our honeymoon in 1979 [cos my Mum wanted her machine back, once I'd made the curtains and the going-away dress] It lives at our bungalow in Norfolk and is in regular use there.
If you aren't using yours regularly, I hope it has a donkey!! [see here http://angalmond.blogspot.com/2010/08/doing-donkey-work.html]

  7. The sewing machines in Asia made by singer are leg paddled ones. When i went to canada, I tried using one that you turn with your hand, I couldn't sew.

  8. Congratulations. 10 is a very important number.

This is the meme I like most, a bit of flexibity, but still a challenge.

    Thanks.

  10. I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress with your sewing. I've always been more of a knitter, but I did learn to crochet last year and I'm enjoying that.

  12. Good for you. You never let any grass grow under your feet.
I was never very good at sewing, well actually I did ok but I never really enjoyed it.
    I envy people that do.
Hope you will have us all in Stitches in round #10.

  14. A again already? I think I started missing it last time at about C so it's probably too much for me to commit to. Oh what a busy life I must lead - not sure what I'm doing though ...

  15. What a difference between the two sewing machines. I love the look of the vintage one but the newer ones are probably easier to use.
    Happy sewing.

  16. When my children were small, 60's and 70's I made almost all their clothes. Three girls and one boy. PJ's robes, shirts, dresses, pants...now I use my machine more for mending...

I'm very proud of your new meme and and will forward to seeing some of your sewing.

  21. Oooh, that Vesta looks a lot like my Mum's old Singer - I LOVE those old machines - and I taught both my boys to sew on one before they were old enough to use the electric! Which, by the way, is a Frister & Rossman which I've had since we were married. It was a wedding gift from my Mum!

    Hope you have fun sewing!

  22. I love the look of the old machine! When my girls were small I sewed on one very similar to the Vesta. It's a long, long story why I used such an old machine but it worked better than a newer one I purchased when my girls were teens. Ha! Wish I still had the older one!

If you are still looking for someone to do an intro, I'd be honoured. I'm not sure it would be as clever as many I have read here, but I would try.
