Sunday, January 29

Blowing away the cobwebs.

The weather forecasts we have had since October have all been wrong, but yesterday because it suited Jon's plans we decided to go along with the prediction of a nice afternoon - relatively speaking.

Over the past few months Jon has been tootling in his shed with his winter project....he turned a 98 Honda fireblade into a streetfighter. Basically this means he changed it from a sportsbike into a sit up and beg type.

So we tried it out yesterday......Mark our neighbour came along for the ride....

We had a coffee in Whitby

then went over Pickering moor, through to Thornton-le-Dale.

We came home over Blakey, passing through Hutton-le-Hole, Blakey, Casteton and Danby.

Surprisingly I wasn't too cold - but I was glad when we arrived back home as my hands were just starting to get cold......but we were all well wrapped up!

The bike performed well but is now in pieces again as it needs something fiddling with the cables and mirrors need fitting.

I was glad we had a run out yesterday - far colder today and many parts of the North East have snow.......we seem to have escaped it.......................so far!

  1. I was thinking about you as I switched on and thinking 'they'll soon have the bike back on the road and can come and see us' and blow me down there you are riding it!

  3. lol Pat - great minds think alike! Yes we must - we still have our other bike so when we know the weather isn't going to be too cold we'll pop over!

  4. Men just love tinkering, don't they? It sounds as though you had a good run out. Hope the snow avoids you - we've been threatened with snow in balmy Berkshire. At the moment it's simply foggy!

  5. Maybe for Jon the main pleasure is in taking it to pieces rather than riding it. ;)

    1. As we have 2 bikes Jenny - he can do both! Yes he does like to take things to pieces but thanks to mobile phones and digital photography at least he can take a picture to see and remind himself what it should look like when it is put back together!

  8. I can't imagine the wind chill on a bike at this time of the year! Hubby assures me it's fine with all the gear on, but I am certainly a fair weather biker! Whitby is one of those fantastic places to go at any time of the year though, isn't it?

  9. What a great day out - a ride through some lovely country. Not sure I could bring myself to ride in such cold weather tho.

  14. I always think of the North East as being one of the coldest places on earth, I stayed once in a youth hostel there and I swear I have never been so cold in my life. My grandma also came from there and never seemed to notice the cold. Ooh, must put the fan heater on!
Beautiful photos, by the way. It is such a beautiful part of the world.
