RIP Elsie
Never for one minute did we expect Sunday to turn out as it did. We took Elsie and Bing to Redcar, where only a week previous we had come across Bing's brother and sister and had a time of great joy and fun.
It happened in a split second. Bing was chasing his ball and I was next to Elsie. She collapsed.
Jon was at her side in a flash, picking her up and running to the van. Members of the public could see something was wrong and came to help.
We got Elsie into the van and I phoned the vets to let them know we were on our way.
I sat in the back with Elsie and Bing.
We arrived at the vets but Elsie had passed away.
Gone, in a flash with no warning.
Elsie was devoted to Jon and it will take time for the loss to sink in.
She mellowed with the arrival of Bing and spent many hours training him and showing him the ropes, including how to be the "works dog".
Bing will be going to the workshop with Jon and we feel Elsie will be watching over his every move.
Too soon however, whilst she was about 12 she had a good life and we will miss her.
The best dog Jon has ever had.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Denise. What terrible news. I know there's never a good time for them to go, but you can take some comfort from the fact that she was with Jon, enjoying a day out, and that it happened quickly without her suffering. Sending lots of hugs. xx
ReplyDeleteSuch an unusual way for a dog to go Denise - I am so sorry. But at least it was over quickly and you didn't have to make that terrible decision. Hope Bing takes over his role successfully.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to lose your faithful friend so suddenly. You will obviously miss her a lot, but have lots of lovely, happy memories to remember her by. Ann x
ReplyDeleteBig hug for the both of you. This pain is very close to my heart, just as fresh now as it was 9 months ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling dog Elsie was, you must be feeling the gap in your little family xx
Really sorry to hear your sad news Denise. It is incredibly sad and I really feel for you and Jon, especially as she wasn't particularly old. I hope Bing isn't too badly affected by it all too. At least she seemed to go pretty peacefully and at least you know that she had a wonderful home and life with you and you did everything you could for her. Thinking of you. xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch sad news. But Elsie was outside at the ocean with you all and had a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteThinking of your family.
cheers, parsnip
So sorry to hear about your sad news - you must feel lost without her. Loosing anyone so quickly and unexpectedly is always hard as it does not give you chance to say goodbye on the other hand she didn't suffer and was on a happy day out with you all and not alone - a good way to go. Thinking of you. x
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that. What a terrible shock for you all.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the sad news about Elsie, always a hard time losing our pets/members of the family.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read your sad news, thinking of you xx
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Denise! What a tragedy! I am so so very sorry for your and John's loss. But really, you know she didn't suffer - it was obviously her time and with those she loved and who loved her. I bet Bing, especially will be missing her lots.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Elsie. She was a beautiful dog. I loved following her escapades on your blog. I shall miss her as I know you will.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Elsie ~ what an emotional shock that must have been.
ReplyDeleteOh, how sad. I did not expect to be reading this when I turned to your blog. Usually there are lovely photos of the dogs frolicking around in the sea. I hope you are all right. Rachel
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Denise and so shocking happening like that. My horse got colic and was dead within an hour of symptoms showing so I do understand. My heartfelt sympathies and virtual hugs.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry!
ReplyDeleteOh..... Goodness, how awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry.
Hope you find out why this had to happen. Somehow it's the shock and unexplained suddenness of a thing like this that make things more difficult to bear.
Hugs......
