We are about to begin preparations for a spot of decorating - hall, stairs and landing and main bedroom.
I managed to drag Jon into a carpet shop last week to start and get some ideas of colour.
The current hall, stairs and landing carpet is a shade of beige and the walls are citrus.
We want a change, the carpet is unpractical and has seen better days. (Understatement of the year!)
We both decided on a grey - a speckled type.
All woodwork/doors brilliant white and all door furniture to be changed - from brass to chrome.
Looking back I found this account of the last time we decorated - it was 2008, so 5 years for the carpet, with the traffic we have in the hall with our animals is good going!
Meanwhile, back in the house, I had my own DIY project on the go.
Over a period of a few months, working with my sister in law Maureen we transformed a dingy hallway, stairs and landing from this....
through this....
It looks great. I love a freshly painted room. I love greys too all shades of them. I hope you find a colour that suits.
ReplyDeleteCheers - have a great assistant in our local shop - was telling me some greys take on a violet glow when on the walls so will go with what she suggests. Well excited - next weekend we'll take up the old carpet and will know action is about to begin.
DeleteGood timing. I see you've spotted the new F&B greys.. trendsetter you!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the 'afters'.
I very nearly considered wallpaper on just one wall being the trendsetter I am Jessica......cough cough but at £95 a roll for F&B I soon dismissed the thought! lol!
DeleteI hate choosing colours..I'm so afraid I'll get it wrong.

That's why I always stuck with Magnolia Jane but get quite excited now - all so dramatic. After going for a purple emulsion in the lounge I think a grey will be easier.
DeleteDoesn't the woodwork look better for a lick of paint? Never been a fan of the varnished look!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Em - I think we will be painting the woodwork on the stairs white - would love a modern one but its very substantial being an ex-authority police house. White will be easier to keep clean - I hope!
DeleteI HATE picking colors too!
ReplyDeleteI find it exciting now Rog xxx
DeleteI think we have all gone through our magnolia period Denise. I hear that grey is very fashionable this year - fifty shades or not!!
ReplyDeleteWe'll soon find out Pat! Main reason we went for grey was practicality - 3 sets of paws and all that! Oh and boots.
DeleteI love grey paint. I had a wall painted a light grey and it changed in color at different times of the day from a soft blue to lavender to a dusky grey. One of the most underused colors.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more photos.
cheers, parsnip
Definitely like the sound of that AP - the glass doors lead into the lounge where we have a purple carpet.
DeleteI have to comment here simply because I love that opening shot and title :). PS Thank you for your ABCWednesday....it has really helped me use my brain (a little) thinking of shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Great to have you aboard LfP
DeleteI love that goose -- or is it a swan? -- on the bannister. Did the north get any of that storm that went through? I remember caravans being blown over the cliffs when the stormy winds came from that direction.
ReplyDeleteIt's a duck Chris. I have a set of them - they all have names believe it or not.
DeleteOh and no we just missed the winds for a change. Mainly hit the South East.
DeleteI've got a thing about greys at the moment, though who knew there were 50 shades of it.
ReplyDeleteYes Jo can understand - I feel a grey period coming along! lol!
