I use a lot of minced beef in my recipes and one new recipe I have tried is this one!
Jon isn't particularly fond of tomatao sauce so I often leave it out and add an onion gravy!
Meatballs
Ingredients
serves 4
675 g (1 1/2 lb) minced beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
100 g (4 oz) fresh white breadcrumbs
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 - 3 tablespoons dry red wine
salt and pepper
1 tablespoon oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
400 g (14 oz) can chopped tomatoes
150 ml (1/4 pint) beef stock ( I use oxo)
Grease a 1 kg/2 lb loaf tin.
1. Mix the mince, onion, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, red wine and seasoning togetherform into balls.
2. Bake in a moderate oven (180‚°C, 350‚°)for 20 minutes
3. Heat the oil in a saucepan and cook the onion and garlic until soft.
4. Blend the tomatoes in a liquidiser and add to the onion mixture with the stock, parsley and seasoning to taste.
5. Bring the sauce to the boil, reduce the heat.and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
6. Tip the meat balls and arrange on a serving dish, then pour over the hot tomato sauce. Garnish with sliced pickled cucumber, if liked.
This looks so good and I am so hungry right now. I think I am going to have to raid the cupboards for something to MUNCH on.

ReplyDeleteNo mincing words about this - look delish.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try it since I don't make too good of meatballs. The best ones around here are takeout from an Italian restaurant.
Mmmhhhh, it sounds wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteM is for more...
I would SO much prefer onion gravy! One thing I miss about English food is gravy -- good old fashioned gravy. None of this fancy flavored stuff. It all sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a wonderful meatball dish! Very tempting!
ReplyDeletemmmmm very delicious and more sophisticated than mine with the red wine.
ReplyDeleteHow delicious is that??You make your meatball dish looks so sexy! Well done!

You'v been torturing us along these weeks with all these mmmmm... recipes! I'd replace the red meat by chicken, since I don't eat read meat, but I bet it would be awesome just the same!
ReplyDeleteKisses from Nydia.
Sounds so delicious Denise!
ReplyDeleteI do love meatballs, but OH, like Jon, isn't fond of tomato. Onion gravy sounds like a good alternative, except he isn't fond of gravy either! I do meatloaf instead!
ReplyDeleteMy blog is back up now. Yay!
