I is for Indigo.

I love the impact of a washer dye. Gone are the days of time consuming efforts over a bucket, gloves and stuff. Now we can fill the washing machine with a dye powder, salt and fabrics.

A few months ago I revived some faded towels see here

well two of the towels didn't dye so well and were blotchy.
So armed with the newly discovered indigo dye I set about my task!

(notice the nose behind the vertical blinds - yes Bing was watching!)

IMeanwhile - now Rayburn is on I need to transport logs from log chopping area. Happened to have 1 rusty trolley and one laundry basket laying around. Result ! INVENTION!

Whilst all this activity was going on I heard the distinctive clucking of a certain hen who had decided to lay an egg IN the sawdust bucket!

  3. Well, Mrs. Nesbitt, in my humble opinion, "I" in your case is for "ingenuity"!
    Or "inventive hen"!
And yes, I could see the nose at the blinds. You are, after all, Bing's mum and he has to check on your whereabouts!

  5. I have disastrous memories of trying to dye something many years ago. This looks fairly simple, but I have two questions: Did the dye stain your machine and will the dye run when you wash these items again?

    1. Chris - no the machine does not have any stains - after the dye programme I run a general 40 degree wash. No the dye does not run - this is why salt is used. I am a great fan of these dyes. Always something to brighten up. I popped in a couple of tops too.

  7. Love the nose in the blinds, Denise.
I am glad you are safe from the tremendous flooding.
It's hard to believe you have to start heating your home when I sit here with the fan whirring in 100F. heat.
    Love your Indigo!

  8. That hen in the bucket made me smile Denise - they will choose anywhere where they think you won't find the egg and then give themselves away with clucking - but then they are pretty bird-brained aren't they?

  10. I love that gorgeous blue - was once very much into natural dyes and mordants, etc. etc., but this looks lovely and simple.

  11. I just laughed at you popping in "a couple of tops", indeed just the thing to brighten up any day. No 'Mood Indigo' for you especially with hen buckets.

  12. I noticed Bing's nose :) 'Got a towel with exactly that color and I called it blue, but then I am known to be a bit color blind.
