J is for Jam and pure Joy!
Scones with jam and cream are sheer joy! Following on with my cookery challenge I tried out and modified another new recipe this week, infact only yesterday, Monday. From the Hairy Bikers recipe book this was the recipe :-
Ingredients
340g SR flour
pinch salt
85g butter
55g castor sugar
125ml milk
4 tbsp natural yoghurt
Heat oven to 200 c Gas 7
Mix salt in flour
Rub in butter
Add sugar, stir
Add milk & yoghurt
Work until soft dough
Roll and cut into scone shapes
Brush tops with milk
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes
I used vanilla yoghurt and the taste was simply out of this world!
Add strawberry jam & cream!
So easy but the taste, sheer sheer JOY!

Omigosh! Those look so yummy! I remember having "tea" with a lovely lady in Chipping Somethingorother (near Broadway) when my g'friend Cathy & I were in England in '97. She had a beautiful home and garden that went way back into the hills where sheep grazed. We sat on the patio and had a proper high tea with scones, Devon cream, jam, and cakes. Because we're not used to that here, we didn't even need any dinner. :D
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a sweet tooth, but I love the smell of home-made jam.
ReplyDeleteOh yummmm, I love fresh baked biscuits and home-made jam. You have made me hungry Denise.
ReplyDeleteOh yummmmmmm is right! Love that jam and what a great shot! Looks absolutely delicious!! One of my favorite things!! Hope you're having a great week, Denise!

Oh my mouth is watering..... Oh I just want to reach out and put my finger in that jam!!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems so easy to prepare! Another yummy post! :o)
ReplyDeleteKisses from Nydia.
Delightful photo and the recipe looks almost easy enough. The jam is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe second your photo came up my mouth started watering! Yum yum!
ReplyDeleteGot your comment Denise, never received message I'm afraid. I'm on annual leave until 6th April - if it's urgent send an email to my private email address and I'll see what I can do.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Gary
This reminds me - I haven't had my breakfast yet! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have been talking about jam on my blog!! Not the normal jam, of course, but chilli jam, I intend to have a go at making some this year!!!
ReplyDeleteYummy! Extremely pleasing!
ReplyDeleteDenise, that photo is amazing, it belongs inside a cookery book! Scones are a firm favourite around this house!
ReplyDeleteScones with jam and cream are sheer joy! Melting moments!
ReplyDeletesinfully joyous!!
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful! I must try making these though I'm not much good at baking. I can imagine the vanilla yoghourt really adding to the flavour. I love vanilla yoghourt, especially home-made. Mmm, my mouth is watering.
ReplyDeleteI don't do scones. I love them, but every time I've tried to make them myself they end up looking like scookies (a mix between a scone and a cookie). So, now I just buy them in the tea shops.
ReplyDeleteooey-gooey, delicious-looking photo! So tempting to fall off the diet.
ReplyDeleteOh, jam! Looks wonderful! I love scones and can make quite good ones, if I say so myself. I personally love them with blackcurrant jam and philly. Mmmm!
ReplyDeleteOh Yum! Boy does that ever look good!
ReplyDeleteTasty as always, ma capitan.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I just said to Barry last night, "I just feel like something really nice to eat" and he said,"What sort of something nice?" I stopped to think, and then said "How about a scone, thick with cream and strawberry jam!" Now lo and behold there it is. Yummy, yummy!
ReplyDeleteP.S. If you want to do it the lazy man's way, over here in the States, I buy Bisquix and add sugar and sometimes raisins. Almost as good as from scratch -- but definitely not as good as Denise's.
ReplyDeleteOh Denise, this is SO GREAT! What a great shot, wonderful post! Sorry I am late, been a busy week. hugs, shakira
ReplyDeleteOh, you are doing my diet no good at all! I would choose raspberry jam, but I'll manage with strawberry if necessary. :)
ReplyDeleteooh you are doing it again - I've only got apricot jam but that'll have to do - I'm off to buuter a scone put t'kettle on!
ReplyDeleteSo yummy! I think they are perfect with hot tea, don't you think so?
