Snow in the Village

Ignore the time setting on this picture, it was taken around 4pm today, Thursday from our gates at the end of the drive..

The hens experienced snow for the first time today! When I opened their door at 10 o'clock this morning only one came out then turned round and went back inside. I could hear lots of discussion going on and they stayed put for the morning!

We can always tell when it is going to be really cold because Jo puts himself to bed. Here he is a few minutes ago.

To the right of this picture you can just see the bale of straw which we use for his bedding. I have a sneaking suspicion that Bev, the black hen has snuggled down for the night, as this is where they will have layed their eggs today! We get 6 every day, so they are all laying!

Well Done Gals!

  1. Isn't snow lovely in the countryside? Our fields were just beautiful this morning, all the mud hidden by the perfect snow!

  7. These are great shots. I wonder what the birds were thinking. I love the view.

  8. They look in excellent condition, Mrs N. and there's absolutely nothing like the taste of your own home produced eggs.
We're looking forward to some from our new chucks.....the old ones (average age 6) have retired gracefully and spend their days giving lessons in the best place to hide eggs and frightening the geese!!

  10. What a gorgeous photo of the sky and snow. Just stunning. Loved the photos of the hens, I can't say that I blame them for not wanting to come out into the snow. And how cute is Jo??

  11. Love to hear about your hens -- and Jo. I miss Henrietta from a year ago. Thanks for your comment. You are a busy lady so I'm happy when you visit. Haven't found any of Bailey's possible Christmas gift, so we may have lucked out! Got a new blogging friend, just moved to Flamborough from NZ.
