They also get any (edible) weeds I pull up from the bits of the garden they're not allowed in and any fruit/veg that's damaged while growing -- with all the slugs this year, they've had lots! In my city, people can have chickens in residential neighborhoods but no roosters are allowed. Chickens in my neighborhood have become so popular that people get very into building their coops and decorating them for holidays. There are several times of year where everyone with chickens visit each others chicken coops. I don't have chickens but I enjoy my neighborhood ones.
